In the 60s this hotel bar had a lovely manageress called Eve who at the time was getting on, well com, pared to me she was!
Then one evening I went in and she had an assistant who, I have to say was absolutely gorgeous. At that time I freqented many of the pubs down town. But none of them had a barmaid as beautiful as she was. However, every evening as the bar was shutting her boyfriend or partner came to take her home. He had 2 alsations on leads. This went on for a couple of weeks or so. Then one night I and a friend were in the bar and asked Eve where her barmaid was. Oh she won't be coming in anymore. Why? we asked. She hung herself last night. We were stunned by this. There was a reason for it which I will only say is implicit in what I have written.
Nice to see the old place still standing.I was married in Rock Ferry in May 1960 and we spent our first night at the Central,it seemed quite posh to us.Our marriage lasted 47yrs.until my wife died 3yrs. ago.God Rest Her Soul
