Omg omg

Well, it is to be expected, this is a Labour government after all.

Richie ST had a tree house when we was growing up, well I think it was more of a pallet in a tree with some low wooden walls, I rekon that has got to add at least a fiver to the council tax bill lmao!!!

Does a Wendy House or a wooden house add value? Of do they get away with it, because they are no permanant, whereas a treehouse would presumably be bolted onto a tree? Richies was tied with rope, so he may well have gotten away with it lol.

I think your safe if you are still in Moreton Matty wink

Though reading the artical - its anything that may add value to the property. Wonder if this will include Central heating, Double glazing.... think

Richies Tree house was mint, it was better than some of the shit houses on the North End, so going on that basis, it could well be classed as a seperate property!!

Lol if it does, you watch the rise in people downgrading to single paned windows and coal fires next year.

This government really doesnt help itself, does it; it's like they have a death wish or summit?

Its like flippin' window tax!!! Just wait - they'll bring that back again!

I have a little summer house in my garden - I wonder if they'll want to tax that? Let's face it - they'll tax anything that we can enjoy!

"Tree houses could add to families' council tax bills under Labour plans, the Conservatives have claimed. "

What a rubbish scare story from the Torygraph. I just don't believe it.

I actually heard it on the BBC news this morning - that was just the first artical I found to link to...

In an answer to a Conservative Parliamentary Question, Baroness Andrews, the Lords Minister for Local Government, said that that a tree house would be taken into account during the banding of a property for council tax if it "adds value".

She said: " In the case of a new dwelling, all features of the property that affect value are taken into account in the banding. The test is whether, in the open market, the presence of a tree house would have any material effect on the property's capital value: in general this is unlikely.

"In the case of an existing dwelling, if the tree house was a later addition that added value, it would only be taken into account when the dwelling was subsequently sold."

I don't think theres many people who have to worry about paying extra council tax for a treehouse. It's just political sniping, conservatives trying to score points.

"No-one is safe from Brown's tax bombshell  not even children."

Sensationalism, hysterical even, unless you've erected a treehouse like the one below...

Jeeze, do Labour even allow you to do things like that nowadays? What with their tree-hugging go green policies coupled with stupid health and safety laws, they may well have cut themselves off from a nice wedge of tax there!!

Gotta praise Labour for their recent jobs idea's though, they may finally be on the way to reforming the benefits system. It's about time someone did! Just a shame they thought it up at the wrong time.

No trees were harmed in the making of this treehouse. Although several grey squirrels were killed and eaten by Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall (River Cottage Autumn Ep3).

Sorry going off topic now:
