Hopefully someone out there can help. Last night and continuing now, trying to get into my email is a right pain. It takes forever to download. When it does eventually, it's in a much simplified/basic format. If you click on a message, again it takes ages (2 to 3 mins !!!) to come up.

All others sites including this one seem to download normally.
Is this a problem with Yahoo.co.uk ? Has anyone else experienced this ? Has it gone into some sort of "Emergency Mode" ?

Sorry, but my IT skills/knowledge teeter around the zero mark !

Any info welcome.

Thanks folks.

When you say "download" are you accessing your email from your web browser (Internet explorer) or from Outlook Express?

I will have a look at Yahoo, but i suspect maybe there is some sort of disruption from your internet connection to Yahoo.

You will probably find it will work in a few hours.

Probably just a temporary problem with their servers/network. Happens to us all, I lost an entire rack of servers last night for over an hour, thanks to a network fault.

Contact Yahoo and see if they can shed any light on the problem.

Many thanks for your replies, suggestions etc. Tried various things through the day after prompts from other folk. No change. HOWEVER, after just about 24hrs, the Yahoo mail format reverted to its usual self and speed returned to normal on its own ! I think Matt's comment about the server was right.

"Normal" here is 576.0 kbps !! That said, the house is over 3 miles from the exchange at the end of a pair of spindly, many-jointed wires across the fields! A few inches further and broadband is a no-no !

Yeah it could be one of a million reasons, it won't be your actual line, as the rest of the interweb was running okay, but if it wasnt Yahoo's servers, it could have been a major carrier down that their servers rely on (some dosey workmen cut through a Global Crossing fibre link a few weeks back and knocked out over 40% of o2 Broadband/Be Unlimited's entire UK capacity in an isntant, and it took 3 days to fix and have it running properly again omg), could be that your ISP has de-peered/not paid their bills and Yahoo's preferred carrier (ISP) was no longer working for you, so you had to go another route (longer, more time consuming) to connect.

Could also be a result of some little 5 yr old kid from Hull or Ipswich or somewhere, who wear's big glasses and sports a mop top, decided to play god with Yahoo's servers by sending a Distributed Denial of Service (DDoS) attack against them, and causing them to grind to a halt, and the only way the networks can fight it is by mitigiating/diverting/null routing (null routing means switching off essentially) traffic and therefore slowing you down on your merry way to innocently downloading your email.

The scariest of them all has to be the kid, the power the new-age geeks can have is insane lol.
