These people must be stuped, if you have these views, you shouldn't put them in writing or join groups etc (eg facebook) .

There are several police offices on the list, including one that lives in Prenton.

Resigned 15/10/04. Was 15551 (04). Proof of entitlement seen

Wonder what the last sentence means? Perhaps you have to send a photo proving you are white with your lineage going back so many generations just like the SS or any German who wanted to get married during the Nazi period?

Some worried people out there at the moment.

Most of the BNP aren't Nazi's you know. If you strip away the 'racist' part of the party and you are left with a party that has policies identical to Labour's.

I'd never vote for them of course, but it's a free country, free speech, etc.

Merseyside PC Stephen Bettley in BNP membership inquiry

Liverpool Echo

MERSEYSIDE police chiefs were today trying to contact their officer named on a British National Party membership list.

PC Stephen Bettley, who worked as the chief constable’s chauffeur, is understood to be on holiday in Egypt.

In the leaked BNP list, he is recorded along with Yvette Bettley and two other family members at their address in Prenton, Wirral.

Mrs Bettley’s entry carries the note: “Discretion required re. employment concerns police officer.”

When the ECHO tried to contact them by mobile phone the woman who answered, believed to be Yvette Bettley, said they were on holiday in Egypt.

She said she was a member of the BNP and a former police officer who had worked for Lancashire police 20 years ago.

Police are banned from becoming members of the BNP because it would damage race relations, according to the Association of Chief Police Officers (Acpo).

There is still no official confirmation that Mr Bettley is a member of the BNP.

A Merseyside police spokesman said: “Whether PC Steve Bettley was, or is, a member of BNP is subject to an inquiry.

“We will be keeping an open mind until all of the facts have been established.

Merseyside Black Police Association said: “Where it can be proven that a police officer or police staff member is a member or supportive of the BNP they should be dismissed from service.

“Due process must be allowed to take place and we appeal for calm in that respect.

PC Stephen Bettley

I may be going to throw a spanner in the works, but I don't see the difference between being a member of or voting for the BNP and someone being a member of a Black or Asian Only Party/Group such as Merseyside Black Police Association. Do they have a Merseyside White Police Association or a Merseyside Asian Police Association?? I suspect if there was a White Police Association there would be uproar and accusations of racism.

I don't think that anyone should be sacked over their political views - we do, allegedly, live in a country where we have relative freedom of speech.

I have read some of the BNP Manifesto since this has been released, and have to say that some of the things they want I agree with!! Does this make me a racist or unable to carry out my day to day duties? No, it does not! However, if people in certain jobs openly display racist traits then that is a different matter!

I think this is a kneejerk reaction by people who assume that all BNP members/supporters/voters are racist purely because they listen to the media view of the party.

"There's no black in the Union Jack" - a forgettable slogan by the BNP who believe in a Country for White's only. Just because they make a few "nice" promises on a manifesto it doesn't make the rest of it less vile.

I didn't say it did - I wouldn't vote for them personally. All the main parties have little things that I'd love to see implemented, but I think they are all not to be trusted and it's all shades of the same $h!t.

I just don't see why people should be sacked for their political views unless, as I say, they allow it to affect how they perform in their day to day duties.

There are probably more people that actually vote BNP than are on that list. Just because they are on the list it makes them an easy target so to speak. There will always be an uneducated idiot who thinks it is ok to set fire to a "members" house just because they are on the list, or a car they THINK belongs to a member as has happened overnight. It's like the poor Paediatrician who had an arson attack on their house because there was a paedophile in the same street and they couldn't tell the difference!

These vigilantes scare me more than those on the list!!

All parties have some policies that we all agree with but these people are just dangerous. Just like the Nazis they would start with ethnic miniorities then go on to gays, trade unionists, the church etc. We must learn from history or perish.

Had they been more like Scottish nationalists and not a racist party they might have done a lot better. No they are not the same in my opinion.

Their websites are easy to find if you google and believe me they are nasty to put if mildly.

Well said Morseman.
As Martin Niemoller said

When the Nazis came for the communists,
I remained silent;
I was not a communist.

When they locked up the social democrats,
I remained silent;
I was not a social democrat.

When they came for the trade unionists,
I did not speak out;
I was not a trade unionist.

When they came for the Jews,
I remained silent;
I was not a Jew.

When they came for me,
there was no one left to speak out.

Well I am a nationalist, I am proud to be British, more proud to be English, even more proud to come from the Wirral and absolutely ectstatic that I come from Birkenhead (so perhaps I am a Localist, not a Nationalist).

Whilst there is more than one country in the world you have to have a nationalist tendency or just be overthrown - how many times have europe tried to introduce laws that would be to our detriment?

I am more left wing than right wing - I believe everyone has rights, I believe we have to look after people that are not so good or not capable of helping themselves (excluding the other meaning of helping yourself!). We have to represent people who struggle to be represented - we have to be fair to all and punish those who are unfair to others.

I am not racist, I do not believe in kicking non-criminals out of our country, BUT I DO BELIEVE IN CLOSING AND CONTROLLING OUR BORDERS!

What part do I join to represent me, I only have the choice of BNP or UKIP. Sadly UKIP went on a complete tangent and started to fight for the rights of individuals to blow smoke in your face (why????) and hence have shown complete incompetance in the political arena by putting all their money on something that their supporters didn't want them to get involved in.

That leaves me the BNP (which I am not, nor ever have been a member), I believe in more of their policy document than any other parties that I have read, they have no racist policies which has been confirmed by the High Courts on a number of occasions. Yes they have some extremist members.

I have been in the inner circles of both the Labour party and the Conservative party - if you think some of the BNP are extreme, some of the otehr parties are worse.

The far of the labour party (some of whom preach one thing but do not think it applies to them) would bankrupt the country overnight believing in throwing money at every hard-up person in the world and not being prepared to negotiate and comprimise. Punishment for being rich (the storming of the Bastille) is thought on as an ideal by some!

The far right of the conservative party would still like to have the working class locked up at night, paid in substandard food and accomodation only and to have no right to complain - don't laugh at this I have met many of them like this, you would be amazed at how many there are and serious they are.

The green party certainly has extremists who can threaten life.

So why is it that only extreme members of the BNP are used to catagorise the status of the BNP whilst the other parties (sorry I have never been near the liberal and other parties) extremists are ignored.

So I am left with only the BNP as a viable party - or perhaps Screaming Lord Peter Sutch's Raving Loony Monster Party has the right idea.

Me personnaly - I believe EVERY MP should be an independent - no party to answer to, just his constituants. Obviously in this situation he would have to negotiate and comprimise with other MPs - but perhaps the MP would be fighting for what is right instead of making sure the "Party" survives at all costs.

I also believe in the second house - however undemocratic, the House of Lords used to work very well - the show of their independance used to flatten some ridiculous efforts of the Commons to pass unfair law. I guess the American dual house system is a good compromise. The parliament act has made a farce of us having two houses, when the second house can be overuled at will.

But who represents me now? - the BNP would - any other suggestions?

soap box collapsed from overuse
