After finances forcing me to get rid of my Integra early this year and settling with a surprisingly cheap and reliable Accord for 10 months, I have finally bought myself something I want.

1973 1.6 1303s Superbug with 2 previous owners, 50k on the clock, 10 months MOT and best of all it is totally standard.

Plans are, run it all winter as my main car and begin a restore in the summer when I can travel on my bike.

Being an old VW it suffers from rust, luckily it has been garaged all its life and is currently only suffering from surface rust. Obviously the rust is my first concern and there is a small scrape on one of the wings to be filled in, but as I have a large garage, I am going to have a go of spraying it myself.

Next is restoring the current wheels for winter use and buying some alloys for summer use. Also, it needs a radio an extra wing mirror and possibly some more supporting seats.

I have got my eyes on a lid spoiler on ebay.

Will keep a picture diary obviously.

If you need any info, give me a shout

I used to drag race these and ran 14.02secs!!! (10 years ago),still far fast by todays standard.

No point in repairing the wings as they bolt off with 13mm nuts and wings are only £20 each.
(make sure you order with elephant light fitment)

Those wheels are GT rims, they look good when refurbed and take upto 195 tyres on the rear, and I would go with 185x55 fronts.

Lowered front springs are cheap, coilovers are available but still pricey.

the 1303s is the best model to make into a German looker.> Phat porsche rims, low, perspex windows and bucket seats.

Basic engine mods are cheap.
An after market exhaust (£80),009 distributor (£45),and a 2nd hand Weber twin barrel carb (£80)

Will change the performance alot.

As the engine is over the rear wheels, traction is superb for straight line acceleration.

AND BEFORE someone says a porsche engine fits straight in --- IT DOESNT. 4cyl vw - 6cyl porsche ,do the maths.

I still go all the Vw shows and can collect parts if need be.

paul

(ps Ive owned about over 35 beetles!!) then campers and everyother vw inbetween.

What did you give for it??? Was it local?

£700, local, was a fair price taking into account the mechanical condition of it. compared to other around

Thanks for the offer, i am sure i will be sending a few PM's to you.

Mine doesn't even come with a radio, so need to figure out how to wire it in.

There will always be a place in my heart purely for VDubs only!! I hate the new ones with a passion!! I'd love one of the old ones as well as a camper. One day maybe.

I know the lad who was supposed to have this. I dont know the exact story but he was given it to him by his mum and then never passed his test so its been sold on. Ive always pestered him to get his license and get it out there but he never did. Glad to see its actually going to be used now instead smile

Cool, guy in Hoylake?

Started on the wheels, they were in a right sorry state, done a pretty naff job on the first one as i didn't sand it down enough.

Second one looks quite good though. It has leaked a small spot of oil in my garage the past day or so, will have to keep an eye on that.

Also, i have removed the rear bumper, as i can restore this while i drive the car. Was looking at the T-Bar bumper replacements, not sure how they would look on my car though :s
