Padlocks wink

If they need to open the case then, you get a letter about it and why.

If you were with one carrier all the way back they are responsible
from start to finish.

Not right like you said.

Ive never had a problem, as in forced open.

Well your either using "Cheap" locks or a bag not fit for purpose.

I know lots of people that havent had problems.

You get a Notice if !
The suspect something and have had to force any locks open
for security reasons.

Any bag and every bag has the potential to have something iffy
inside no matter its source.

Most people will secure there case bag somehow some way
or your just inviting some one to have a rumage and take.

Just the way it is.

Simple solution - keep valuables in your hand luggage!

I took a laptop to the Dam last year, and kept it in my hand luggage; not only can things get robbed but they throw cases around like they are balloons and things are liable to be broken.

I also keep phones, money, passport, wallet etc in my coat when travelling, can't understand these people who keep valuable things like their wallets, money and passport's in their cases, they are leaving themselves wide open to theft; and I wouldnt like to be stranded in a foreign country with no money/wallet and no passport to get home!

Not only does it leave you open to theft, but it also means that should the luggage go missing (and it often does) for whatever reason, you have none of these vital possession's when you arrive!

Gutted you lost ya stuff mate, but im asure you will learn from this and never make the same mistake.

Padlocks are all well and good, but if a baggage handler wants to get it off, he/she will, and you have no way of proving it was padlocked unless you specifically request at check in for a receipt to acknowledge this fact; not that it helps you if things do get stolen, but it helps you make a claim if they do.

If you have old documentation for the phone and the IMEI number then you can phone up the phone company you where with eiter Pay as you go or Contract and get the phone completly locked i.e. It's for the bin.. If you dont have you documents for the phone then gutted for you.. Play the theiving barstard at there own game they nicked your phone you get your phone completly barred so it cannot be used again.. Just an idea.. ?

Only within Europe... even with an IMEI bar, countries outside of Europe can still use stolen phones. This includes the likes of Africa, where most stolen phones end up.

In fact, even Eastern European countries can use phones yeilding an IMEI bar as they don't use the same systems.

It's good as a petite theft can be countered. But the system only works within Europe, any any pro phone theive's tend to ship them out to Morroco and like, where they then get distributed.
