My advice is word and mouth.
If one comes recommended its probably a good starting point.

Ive seen some adverts for the 1st hr free? (Cant remember the name)

But to be fair the very first hour of a New Driving lession
is about who you are and who they are. Familiarising your self
with the car and its controls.

And you wont move in that first hour wink

Hope that helps.

definitely go with word of mouth... i just changed instructors recently as i found one locally via the internet and he leeched me for cash imo... one week i was doing really good and exceeding wot the majority of his previous pupils could achieve on their first leassons relating to things like spiral roundabouts and dual carriageways... the next week i was awful in his opinion

the guy even booked me test without being certain i would pass... then a week before my test he took me out in the countryside after having really heavy snow overnight - car was sliding everywhere and at the end of the lesson said he thought it best to postpone my lesson... this i did and got my refund for my test and have since gone elsewhere... new instructor thinks i should only need a couple more lessons (old instructor said even if i squeezed 5hrs of lessons in before my test he still felt i wouldnt be ready) - so yea... ask around, look for names that keep popping up...

i regret not going to my current instructor in the first place... could have saved me a whole load of money!!!

and often when u pay cheap, that's just wot u get... like almost everything in this world, u only get wot u pay for

Good intructor bad instructor ??

Alot of it is how you connect, can gel?

It is alot like when you were at school?
If only you had had that teacher for that type of lesson
you would have done a whole lot better.

But there were plenty of other pupils that done well
so its just down to how you get on, can you under stand him / her?

You may have needed 5hrs with your old one, because he hadn't
sorted the best way to teach you blar blar,

the new one it just clicked, and there you go.
Its not always the instructor its just how it is.

---------
If i was to say to any pupil i will put you in for your test,
your going to feel fantastic happy
Ready or not?

But if i didnt then the next thing they have moved to a new
instructor and guess what he's put you info your test.
And you feel great, but for how long?

It is a fine line?
When is that pupil ready?
Bare in mind a Driving instructor has his passes and fails
monitored by the Department of Transport. So its in his
interest to get you a pass wink

gel'd with old instructor fine, we used to joke about ppl we passed and just chat about general things. he had a wii so often spoke about games he had been playin, the snooker that was on the tv at the time etc... i just lost total trust in him when he took me on a lesson that was totally useless to my learning, just purely so he could get some cash in his pocket for the day.

the way i see it, he needed the cash with it being really quiet over xmas period for ppl taking lessons... so thought he'd take me out in trecherous conditions then slating my driving at the end to say that i would need another 10 lessons. my new instructor apparently has the highest pass rate in perth and charges the same prices as my old one (£23/hr)

anyways,

good luck ben!

u're being wise ben, aye, take ur time... just watch u dont leave it too long... if u feel the guy is pushing u - that is probs why his pass rate is high... he's not in it for the money, he wants to get rid of u asap.... he will only let u go when he thinks u r definitely ready if he is any good... that's my opinion anyway... know marks opinions do conflict with mine in places but i'm talking from the learners side... from experience lol... almost had 30 lessons now with a number of instructors lol

Just a note :
Gone are the days of "I passed in 10 lesson" ?
Its not were getting worse as learners, its the demands of the roads, and conditions that make 10hrs a thing of the past.

The average statistic when i was a instructor 10 years ago
was 32hrs but that's probably counting the old grannies who
do driving lessons for company.

A Driving isntructors job is one of the few that it is if
you do a "Good" Job the buggers dont come back wink

Davey every time you change your probably loosing 2hrs max.
We are trained to know where your at and move on wink
But there is always in every profession the good, the bad and the ugly. I was good and ugly lol wink

haha mark, wish i was down that way even to get a few casual lessons inbetween - it's a shame i lost trust in my previous instructor cos i did like him... i was just left too many questions of his experience/intentions...

i always look for the best in ppl and so far i am doing good with my current instructor... i just feel u should make sure there is nobody better for the same money following word of mouth...not sure if that makes sense
