Any advice on were to go for driving instructor training? I feel a career change coming on. I have been driving just under 10 years now and am wondering what is the best route to take to become a driving instructor? Anyone done a course like this before and can put me off the idea are always welcome. I am probably barking up the wrong tree but it does sound like a good job maybe??? Thanks in advance.

Sorry if this isn't the right thread for this!

Hi,
All i will say is this, that the Wirral has water on 3 sides.
And because of this earnings can be limited.
Centre of liverpool has north south east and west.

I done my training with BSM and then Taught instructors
to become instructors before i threw it in as there was
no money in it at the time when i was doing it.

The Idea scenario in hindsight would be.
A Pension and do it to earn extra dosh.
Big knockers and looking gorgeously would increase bookings lol
If you can go teaching in Automatics (OLDIES)
they have all day free at there disposal, and money too.

£30,000 a year is only the earnings, not what your paying
to be with a school, the fuel and maintannce etc...

I can be stupid long hours too, not linked together,
a lesson at 9am and the next one at 3pm and 8pm
a full day for 3 hrs work think

I enjoyed it a hell of a lot, it was great fun,
but it didn't make me rich and can be boaring in between too.

Feel free to pm me for any more info.

I don't know why but i just trust the instructor collage
but in the same breath havent heard anything bad up to now.
I think there jazzing it up to somthing its not. IMO

Hope that helps.

Great info there Mark much appreciated. I think I will go along to TIC for the interview an see how it works. I have a feeling my first problem is going to be funding so probably wont be rushing into anything just yet. Thanks for the alternative as well Mr binky. Will keep my options open.

I went to that meeting at the instructor college and it sounds like scam written all over it. thumbsdown They are wanting me to go back for an assesment but I am going to cancel. Also I read this forum about them - "beware the instructor college". Having said that they did give me some more valuable info though on how it all works so I am still not put off. It would be nice like mark said to have fall back on. Any other suggestions for places to go? I know BSM and AA are the obvious ones but is anyone aware of passmasters history?

Mark- Do you know more about this fleet driver training? Apparently its good money. It involves extra training to drivers in companies to reduce their insurance or something. Thats all I think I know though. Any extra info would be great?

Thanks in advance!

All i know about the fleet driver training is you need some experience and if its that easy and good its going to be
gold dust getting on one,

I would imagine pass master is the same as above.

The AA you are franchised to a postcode area, so for example
if i was working for them i would get ch43 and that would be
my area, but i dont know if they still work that way.

But with the AA and BSM / RAC the Franchise Costs are Stupid.
Yeh Nice car etc, but you have to god dam pay for it all right.

If you want more advice, you can either.

a) pop down to one of the meets. (This Thursday) and i can
pass on more info.
b) Hover around the Driving Test Centres, because when a pupil
goes on Test the Driving Instructors have nothing to do but twiddle there thumbs lol, so they would be happy to chat.

----
I considered myself to be above average as a driving instructor,
as in good at what i did. And all in all after 3 years i think
i may have broke even as in got my 2k back, but started to loose
that at the end.

Dont forget Petrol Prices are going up all the time.
BSM = Bring some Money was the standing joke lol.

A couple of people on that forum said they had a whole list of problems from the money side of it to the lack of training. In other words they taught themselves most of it for the test. The cost for the course is around £3695 and you only get around £1000 worth of mentoring.
I must admit they seemed pretty good in the seminar but they were promising the world. The bloke was saying people they have taught 3 years ago now have around 10 cars on the wirral with instructors under there belt. I dont beleive that for a second!

I wouldn't either wink

As you have twigged the assessment which you would pass even if
you were blind, it just part 1 of getting money from you?

Did they say how much the assessment is?

£3695 Jesus How Much.

For my 2k yeh i was also put up in a Hotel in Leeds for a week
intensive training.

Exams when i took them.

Highway Code £100 (In Manchester)
Advance Driving test 1hr in Ellesmere port £70 (its like a double test).
Instructor Test £90 as above its like a double test.

So the Exams for me = £260

Okay like i say i'm going back say 10 years but comon....
Back then and even now you can book these exams your self.

To pass the last exam is the only point you need to be hooked
up with a driving school, as a Trainee and you have 6 months
to gain enough experience to take the last exam. 6 or 12 i cant remember.

If its £3,500 nower days all the more difficult to get you
money back.

Hope that helps.

Again, much apreciated for the valuable help.

I didn't know the cost of the tests could be broken down like that, thought I need training for all of it.

Just another way they would of scammed me.

Thanks again.
