Has anyone seen the black and white film called the magnet? Set in the 50's and is based in New Brighton and part of Liverpool waterfront good to see just to see what it was like then, also my great uncle was in the film too which should make it a compulsory buy tease

I agree Criag! I sometimes go bowling dead randomly when theres nothing better to do! But still i'd rather go bowling somewhere else! And why/How people can enjoy going to RJ's just blows my mind!!!

But to be fair when i was younger i used to love going down there with my dad to get candy floss! haha memories!

The day the Chelsea shut, was the day New Brighton went downhill for night life... yeah okay, it was sheer cheese with Anton Powers and Radio City spinning the decks... but hey, at least it was good for any new to the scene 14 - 17 yr olds haha.

Some of the best nights before I hit Liverpool were in that legendary place!!

I was born and bred in New Brighton and had the misfortune to witness its demise first hand.Ever since i can remember the town has been promised developments from Japanese ocean domes to disney style theme parks but till now(Neptune development)nothing ever materialised, over the years everything disappeared and was either replaced by houses(vicki road) or not replaced at all.The Grand, the Penny Farthing, the Creep, the Golden Guinea, the Chelsea, the Empress ball room and the Embassy club all closed and vanished .There used to be four amusement arcades in Victoria road ,lots of cafes and souvenir shops but sadly all gone and at one point we had two fair grounds(not counting the tower)the palace/bright spot and a small outdoor fair where mike Jones sailing school now stands and of course the famous New Brighton baths which in its time had hosted beauty pageants and in later years a live televised music concert called New Brighton Rocks, featuring the likes of Madness ,the Weather Girls,Frankie goes to Hollywood and Eddy grant to name a few

The Clown cost £35,000. Money well spent? I think not.
Here's a quote from the Wirral Globe June 2001

A spokesperson for New Wallasey Regeneration says: "The theme was felt to reflect the History of the resort in its heyday at the beginning of the last century when mime artists used to entertain visitors to New Brighton along the promenade."

The funding for Pierrot will come from New Wallasey and the European Union's Konver II programme - cash which the EU has specifically granted for the project and that cannot be used for another purpose.

Ms Keane says: "A lot of people visit New Brighton every weekend and a lot of effort is being put into making it a place worth visiting.

"Let's give New Brighton our support for once instead of stifling this latest attempt to put the town on the leisure map."

It's nice to see the crowds of people coming to see the clown and the huge difference its made to New Brighton since its arrival !!! I wonder which member of the Council it represents and would Ms Keane like it in her road.

Scrap It now its a joke
