The £16bn Crossrail scheme to build a railway link through the centre of London has been given the go-ahead by Prime Minister Gordon Brown.
Construction for the link - from Maidenhead, Berkshire, through to Essex - is expected to start in 2010.
It will provide 24 trains an hour into the heart of London from the east and west, improving rail links to the West End, the City and Docklands.
Mr Brown said it was a great day "for London, Crossrail and the economy". Oh, so I notice its fine to spend £16 billion giving London yet another rail system, but they can't afford £15 billion or whatever to link up the whole country with UK Ultraspeed. Same shit from this "new" Labour government then... Only interested in London!! BBC News Report

Wouldnt mind so much if this was being built for the Olympics, but they are saying its only gonna start in 2010, so it will take years to build, knowing the way this government does things, probably take decades, if it happens at all!!
