An optician has agreed to pay £700,000 to the NHS after being convicted of falsifying hundreds of thousands of pounds worth of spectacle repair bills.
John Walsby-Tickle, who has shops in Lancashire, Merseyside and Cheshire, admitted a specimen charge of stealing £600 from Liverpool NHS Trust in 2003.
Officials uncovered the fraud in an internal NHS investigation.
They claimed that Walsby-Tickle, 55, of Kings Drive, Caldy, Wirral, used the money to fund a lavish lifestyle.
