The BBC has reportedly cancelled a planned TV special on climate change, over fears it may breach impartiality guidelines.

The BBC website reports that Planet Relief, which would have involved a mass UK "switch-off" to save energy, will no longer go ahead.

The programme was pencilled into the schedule for January 2008, though debates between senior BBC executives raised concerns that the project was too "campaigning" in nature, and would make the BBC appear biased.

Those close to the programme told the BBC website that their aim was to "raise consciousness."
