The problems with the folder may be due to not having the correct or corrupt codecs for video files. It could also be affecting media player.

But if you havnt got any antivirus anyway i'd suggest the following:

I'm guessing your running XP?

Shut it down, restart into safe mode by pressing F8 and selecting safe mode from the menu.

Once started, click start, then click run and type:

msconfig

press enter and you'll get a utility window.

click the startup tab and untick everything in there that is ticked (most lame viruses/trojans can be stopped from starting up doing this)

Click apply and ok, then restart the computer normally.

Once back on, download antivirus like AVG and anti-spyware such as Ad-Aware
I suggest these as they are free and relatively small to download, simple to use and simple to install.

Scab you computer using both of these and hould it find any viruses or spyware, it will remove them for you.

Restart and then download and install ACE Mega codecs pack (it had many codecs to view many videos) it'll probably as you to restart again.

Then try it and see if you have the same problem. smile

like I say, it's probably just codecs as I used to have the same problems, even with the codec pack (just less often).

If you have another machine and a USB pen, download it on your other machine and transfer it over to the laptop

Less than a tenner.
And there really handy as you can swop porn with mates
really easily, as a USB stick is small wink

Bare in mind you may copy the virus to the USB Stick
so do a virus check on it on the new machine you plug it into.

how many megs of photos do you have? Cos if its only a gig or summit I can give ye some space on one of me servers so ye can zip em up and upload overnight to ensure they are safe.

For reference, id have to say (had an argument about this on WebHostingTalk the other day, most people - mainly server admins etc - sided with me), no NT based OS is ever beyond repair, only amateurs/people who dont understand NT use the easy option and re-install every time - its just a question of knowing and understanding the problem and how to fix it. 99% of NT problems can be fixed in well under an hour.

smile

Unless the AV is Nod32, its not worth having on a machine imho. Not only is it consistently the best overall rated AV software, but it uses virtually no system resources at all!

Ye can get a hooky copy with a 10,000 day keygen or buy the real thing for £23 lol.
