Work has started on a multi-million pound road improvement scheme in Liverpool city centre.
The work is taking place in James Street and will cost £2m. It is scheduled to take 28 weeks to complete.
James Street has been made one way - eastbound towards the city centre - and will remain so until September. Other roads will also be temporarily closed.
Improvements will include replacing paving, updating drainage, new bus lay-bys and a new rail station canopy.
The work is being carried out by Merseytravel in partnership with the city council, Merseyrail and Network rail as part of a wider £73m project.
It will mean temporary road closures and diversions until the end of the year. Just another reason to ditch the car and use the train when going to Liverpool, its absolute murder driving around there already what with road works everywhere! BBC News Report

Sketches of the new station look lame (I think the Merseytravel website shows them) and the canopy looks crap lol
I think James Street should be permenatnly made one way eastbound as Dale street (on the opposite side of the station - westbound) is one way too.
James street could definately do with bus lay-bys. For years, buses have blocked the road with nowhere to pull especially when it's busy.
