He has so far refused to formally endorse Mr Brown as his successor.

He made his prediction while campaigning in Scotland on the 10th anniversary of being elected to power.

Mr Brown, who helped create New Labour with Mr Blair, is not now expected to face a high level challenge for the leadership.

Wow, only this monring it was expected an announcement regarding this would come next week and already Blair has pretty much confirmed he will be stepping down this month.

Well it will be interesting to see how the country moves forward under Brown, Blair has been utter crap overall in my honest opinion, he has been ruled far too much by personal preferences and those of the US rather then listening to what the electorate of the country want.

I for one hopes (and believe he may just be) that Brown will listen to what the people want and work in the interests of the electorate and not give in to the US so easily. We need a PM who is strong and will stand up for the electorate.

I also hope he comes down very tough on crime and makes it his number one policy to get sorted. Cos Blair has let the country go to rack and ruin with regards to crime.

What do you all think??

I dont support Labour, but I think it will move forward under Brown, he seems a lot better the Blair, a lot stronger mentally and a bit more hardlined.

Lets face it though, with issues like crime and the current Iraq situation, things can only get better under Brown...

True, things can only really get better, however, I think alot of the problems have a lot do to with Brown.

Its going to be interesting to see who else steps forward for the role, and if Labour can win another General election with new leadership.

I belive recent polls showed their grip on the country was slipping....

Well it obvious its slipping, they are becoming stale and making a lot of bad decisions in the last 3 years. They have also got many problems to resolve (the recent prison fiasco for example).

The killer atm is the fact the Tories look rejuvenated under Cameron and he looks a lot closer to how old Labour was then new Labour does.

But either way, they are going to have a battle to maintain their government past the next election, and Brown will have it all to do in the next 2 - 3 years.

Its the main Blair is getting out imho, he knows that Labour would never win another general election under his leadership, he knows the electorate are rapidly losing both patience and trust in him.

I agree with a lot of your points Matty, but as Stuy said, will it really move forward with Brown?

As you say, he does seen a lot more stronger than Blair, hopefully, he will be less dependant upon US and their decisions unlike Blair, but Blair and Brown being from the same New Labour background, I doubt much will change.

Personally, I think it could only get worse.

I cant really see things can only get worse under Brown, I think they will either just continue to be as bad as they already are, or over the next 2 years or so in the lead up to the next GE, there will be a slight improvement in the way the country is run.

I just cant see Brown letting the country slip any further, the sooner he is in, the better.
