Hi all, Im new here! I have a probelm with 'display drivers' on one of my computers. The computer is a 'Tiny Pentium 4, ME setup and uses a NVidia graphics card. I cannot rectify the problems I face with the driver erros as I literally cannot view the screnn properly! One reason why I suspect that it is a virus is that, the firewall is out of date, (I use the mostup to date version of AVG free) and windows have discontinued updates for ME. Once I started the computer and the screen was full of standard smileys, the female symbol and the numbers '464646' Here are the pictures, hope someone can help me out here! Its a bity beyond me This is an AVG update!! HELP HELP HELP HELP HELP

I havent seen a virus like this before. Id be more inclined to say looking at the photo's its more a case of corrupt graphics memory. But first of all, check the following: - the monitor cable - remove it from the graphics card, and then plug it in again, making sure its secure. Also, check for any bad bends in it. DO THIS WHEN THE PC IS OFF AT THE WALL - as removing it when its on can cause ESD (im protecting myself here). - go into safe mode - press F8 just before windows loads up. Then choose safe mode, if its the drivers that are corrupt then it should work fine. Also try enable VGA mode. - Check the graphics card itself - if you are confident enough, open up the computer and check that the graphics card is seated correctly in the PCI/AGP slot. If its AGP revision 2 onwards, check the clip at the end of the slot hasnt become loose. AGAIN DO THIS WITH THE PC TURNED OFF AT THE WALL. If it works in safe mode/enable VGA mode, get the latest ForceWare drivers from http://www.nvidia.com/object/win9x_81.98.htmlSee if any of that helps. I have a feeling if none of them work, its corrupt graphics memory. Good luck.

Or Hit F8 as windows boots up and select safe mode. the 464646 stuff gets me thinking it could be. Once I started the computer and the screen was full of standard smileys, the female symbol and the numbers '464646' The pictures threw me, and i missed that bit.

yeh i dont think thats a virus, should be something to do with the graphics card. I've done that once to my old pc where the screen goes out of range. If the graphics card drivers aint installed an ur resolution is set high this could cause the problem, duno why u cant install the drivers tho. Is the drivers on cd or did u find the drivers on the net?
Safe mode could possibly get it working so you could install ye drivers.

Cheers for the feedback, I opened up the computer and took out the graphics card, and replaced with the one from my brothers computer he doesnt mind haha! Put an Nvidea graphics card in, booted up and it was fine. Just for a test I put the old 'corrupt' graphics card into my brothers computer, and booted it, it located the hardware etc etc, I dont get the screen fuxxyness it just looks like its constantly stuck in safe mode. Maybe it is? stuck on 16 bit colour mode. Might go to PC world tonight and get a cheap graphics card GT or GTX something Dont play games on eany computer. I could blag about the amazing graphics in my own computer but i wont! Lund
