I bought my computer late 2004. it a pretty good machine

Its got
No idea what motherboard
AMD athlon XP2800+ 2.1Ghz processor
768MB of ram. its old,and a slow speed
120GB HDD (no idea what speed)
Geforce FX5200 128MB
Nforce sound (no idea what model number) think its onboard
DVD RW
CD ROM
Floppy drive
4 PCI slots
4 USB
Firewire
XP home

My question is. Can DDR2 be fitted to my motherboard? and also, would i notice the difference. is DDR625 the best u can get, and will that work with my computer (which has,at a guess DDR466 now)

i'd like to get a 1 gig stick of this 625 stuff, and can the latest processors be fitted onto my motherboard,or would i need a new one compatable with the latest processors?

SONY PCV-RS222 DESKTOP PC - AMD ATHLON XP 2800+ PC & 17" CRT MONITOR (thats my model number if it helps u find out what motherboard ive got,i cant find out anywhere)

Without knowing the motherboard model number, its impossible to say what spec RAM and/or processor it can take. Do you know what chipset it is? (KT400 etc...)

Had a quick look on the old Google, cudnt find the info.

If you want, I can send you AIDA32 via MSN matey, this "should" be able to give you more insight into what your PC compenents are.

BTW matey, is the DDR625 DDRII or DDRI that doesnt conform to JEDEC specifications (the like of OCZ usually make higher performance RAM like this)?

DDR625 isnt an JEDEC acknowledged specification for either DDRI or DDRII.

As DDRII already has DDR667 and DDR800 as official JEDEC specifications, I would assume that DDR625 is an un-official (therefore overclocked FSB) varient of DDRI.

The maximum for DDRI according to JEDEC is currently DDR400. I has DDR466 when the maximum for DDRI was DDR333 (even though motherboards and chipset were becoming compatible with DDR400, JEDEC didnt feel it was stable enough at the time), but this was an OCZ ULL product and I had to increase the FSB to achieve the speeds.

The JEDEC specs are as follows:

DDRI
DDR200
DDR266
DDR333
DDR400

DDRII
DDR400
DDR533
DDR667
DDR800

DDRIII
DDR800
DDR1066
DDR1333

Don't forget though, that DDRI-400 is actually faster then DDRII-533 in a lot of situations, due to the way they work.

A faster clockspeed and bigger badnwidth isnt always best if the fundamental principles of how they are achieved are less efficient.

If the DDR625 you have is DDRI and it is running close to the CPU FSB, then it will probably be faster then DDRII-800 anyway.

I think the mobo is an ASUS A7N266VX

From a bit of searching, I think the max it supports is Type 1 - DDR400

Eye, we found out before using AIDA. Doubt it will support 400 without some serious FSB cooking lol. 333 will most like be the max as its on the nForce 1 chipset.
