This is all well and good, but imho if someone is caught doing a "major" crime, they should be behind bars anyway, not on ASBO's!!

The government clearly have absolutely no idea on how to cut crime and are only going to gain votes from criminals with their stupid, pathetic idea's like this.

I would implement a 3 strike system, with effect from the age of 18. If you are convicted of of more then 3 non-driving crimes of any nature (maybe forgetting certain things like not paying fines and drunkeness etc), then you get life. Everyone know's right from wrong, and this is the only way to get notorious and regular criminals off the streets!

May sound unfair but, 3 warnings is way more then enough, and as I say, everyone knows right from wrong by the age of 18...

Silly ASBO's do nothing but give criminal's a title, which most of whom are proud to have!

Bring back hard labour! Not the political party, but chain gangs breaking rocks!
The US do have some good ideas, the 3 strikes system seems to be a good idea. But our prisons are already over crowded, either build more, or use the cells ona shift rotation with prisoners working altermate shifts and all you need your cell for is sleeping.

How about making prisoners work during their time in prison? With some luxuries for doing hard work, they will all be wanting to work, and there will be less inclination for companies to outsource to places like India if they could get low paid workers from UK prisons.

It would create more money to build more prisons, and incentives could include earlier release dates (still talking years though), more visits from family and friends etc...

Only the total no good for society prisoners will try and avoid the hard graft then!

And nobody will want to go to prison for life, so it would curb all these repeat offenders.

Instead the government would rather issue pretty meaningless ASBO's and 2 month sentences for crimes such as burglary etc which the offenders may have been convicted of multiple times before!!
