Below is my methods of Chopping, they might not be the exact methods you might use (Or myself on more complicated chops but might be useful for beginners.

Tutorial 1: Lowering your ride.

The best chops always begin with nice rides to start with.

I started with this pimpin Range Rover which I would like to slam.

[Linked Image]

Firstly using the polygonal Lasso Tool (L) which can be found in the tool box showed on the left of the screen) cut out from the edge of the picture the body of the car into the wheel arch above the wheels to the other edge of the picture then to the top of the picture and around to meet the starting point to get the flashing cut out line as shown below.

[Linked Image]

Press Ctrl + C to copy the selection and Ctrl + V to paste the selection into a new layer. Select the Move Tool (V) which can be found in the same toolbox as the lasso tool and use the up/down arrow buttons on your keyboard to position the layer, you can also use the mouse free-hand to position the vehicle.

[Linked Image]

One you are happy with the position of the vehicle select the Crop Tool (C) and select the part of the picture you want to keep dis-regarding any access that might appear at the top.

[Linked Image]

Double click within the borders and there you go.

CTRL + E to flatten the layers.

Tutorial 2: Colour Coding

There are several methods on how to do this, I find this way the most effective.

Note: It is not possible to effectively colour code any colour vehicle so a whole colour change may-be in order (to follow in future tutorials)

Right, we have lowered our Range Rover so lets colour code the black bumper.

Starting Picture

[Linked Image]

First select the Polygonal Lasso Tool

[Linked Image]

Select a part of the car’s base colour as shown below. (all will be apparent soon)

[Linked Image]

Press Ctrl + C to copy and Ctrl + P to paste it into a new layer

De-saturate this selection by pressing the keyboard combination Ctrl + Shift + U, this will give us a good idea on how light the bumper needs to be before we add some colour to it.

[Linked Image]

As you see it now turns to black and white.

Select the background layer on the layers window (bottom right) and select the Polygonal Lasso Tool.

Use this tool to select the bumper(similar to how we selected the car in the previous tutorial)

Once it is selected as below press Ctrl + C to copy it and Ctrl + V to paste it into a new layer.

We need to delete the areas that don’t need to be colour coded (such as the grills) as you see in the below 3 images all I have done is selected the bumper layer and used the Poloygonal Lasso Tool around the grill and pressed delete to delete the selection

Select the rectangular marquee tool and click anywhere within the image to de-select the selection

Next we are going to try and match the darkness of the bumper as close as possible to the selection of the body of the car that we made before, de-saturate the bumper (Ctrl + Shift + U).

Go to Image -->Adjustments --> Brightness/Contrast

[Linked Image]

The following window will appear, use the slider to find the best likeness, I found 23 seems to work the best.

[Linked Image]

Next we are going to add some colour go to

Image --> Adjustments --> Colour Balance

[Linked Image]

The following window pops up.

Using the sliders move them from side to side to determine the exact colour match, in this case the colour match for orange is red and yellow.

I used

+96 Red
-73 Yellow

This seems to get a really good likeness

All that is left to do now is delete the layer that we created first.

Right, nice easy one

Smoothing

Right we are going to get rid of these door handles.

[Linked Image]

Using the polygonal Lasso tool select a part of the car which best represents the part of the car you are covering taking into regards reflections and brightness etc, the best part is usually the closest to the part you are covering.

Luckily the reflections on this range rover are minimal, so we can select a whole selection to cover the handle, rather that multiple smaller selections.

[Linked Image]

Copy CTRL + C and Paste CTRL +P the selection into a new layer and move it over the door handle as shown below.

[Linked Image]

press CTRL + E to flatten the layer and select the smoothing tool.

Using the mouse smooth around the area, keep doing this till you get the best effects, as shown below.
