What are layers??

Layers are a very important part of photoshop and a lot of chops require layers to be made and edited seperately.
A layer is a area of the main image that can be worked independantly,For instance during a wheel swap, the new wheel is pasted over the existing one and sized and angled to look right, then the eraser tool can be used on the "new wheel layer" to remove the tire from the new wheel and the new wheel will blend perfectly to the sidewall of the old tire

Just a quick definition for now,

Working in layers has many applications and a good chop can contain as many as 10+ while it is in the design phase

Hope this helps

Do you mean like sheets of glass on top of each other?

You can also move layers up and down?

A Boat appears on top of water.

Layer 1 = Boat
Layer 2 = Water

Push Layer 2 above Layer 1 (layers window not image).

Layer 2 = Water
Layer 1 = Boat

Now the water cover the boat.

Making transplants colour match better!

For those of you who have managed to put your blue scooby skirts on the side of your ever so slightly different blue fiesta heres a tip to make both blues the same

A colour change,Once the skirts are well fitted then flatten the image, select the whole car and layer via copy, then using the paintbrush tool-set to colour- pick the shade of blue from part of the car(your choice) using the brush colour in the skirts,if you get a match leave it there, if not colour the whole car over and it will match the whole car to a single shade, You dont even need to use the cars colour, this is the method for colour changinf so have a experiment there.

Give it a try and one day i shall post up a transplant tut which shall describe the whole process includin sorting the colour out

Selecting multiple parts of the image??

When selecting multiple items on a pic that do not touch, dont select one, edit it then do the other. Do them at the same time

Do this by selecting the first thing(for example a wheel you wish to powder coat dark grey) the holding SHIFT down lasso the other wheel, then select hue/variations and darken to your taste.......... or whatever you are doing, applies to everything

Useful for adding bits you may have missed in your origional selection

If you wish to deselect an area of previously selected workspace then just hold ALT down

Simple and helpful

Saving??

Saving your chop can be a challenge in itself which corsajohn has proven.

When you want to save ur chop click "save as" and then you have the option to name the file and select the format.

My top 2 formats are jpeg(jpg) and PSD

Jpeg will flatten the image and save it as a small file but retain its quality, you then have the chance to change its quality on the next screen once you have picked its name.12 is maximum and biggest and obviouslt the lowqer the number the smaller the size and lower the quality.Even 2 still looks ok if the origional image was uber res

PSD is photoshop specific format that keeps everything as you left it. Remembers layers and settings so you can change the effects colours etc at a later date. Bad point is the fact PSDs are often large (2MEG or more sometimes) and PSDs cannot be uploaded to photobucket etc

Hope this helps

Lowering??

Once a car has been lowered there may be a bit of dodgy bodwork in a dodgy place. Often i find lowered chops have the tyre brought down with them and left. Way to solve this is to select the very bottom ot the car all the way round. Make sure you dont grab and part of the wheel/tire/wheelarch/floor under the car. The floor beside the car is ok but not under the car

Hope this makes sense
