"Merc" plus "Auto" does not equal "Economical", even if it is a diesel. You on about the E class? Engines aren't bad but if you get one make sure it's a manual. The Diesels are pretty quick for what they are but the head gaskets are common from what I've heard.

Best bet out of the list is the Audi 80 imo.

Why not try an Omega or Carlton? For about 600 quid, you get full leather, everything's electric, really good engines, and the diesels use the BMW engines.
If you get an Omega Elite, you get a really expensive Bose soundsystem (I put one in my astra, best sounding system I've heard). Really cheap.

2 grand is a bit steep. ID love an audi 80, hows the one ur flogging bigcos? u say its a runner,but is it tidyable??



This is the kinda merc my mates got,only in dark blue,id have it resprayed shiny shiny black and more modern wheels fitted,then leave as is
