I'm convinced that my rear tyre is going down, the problem is though I'm having to re-infalte it every week or so, so its not that drastic? can it be a puncture working that slowly? is there anything i can do to check it out myself as i dont wana get a new tyre unless this is beyond repair? is the best thing to go to a mechanics do ppl reckon?

Its either a puncture (Nail or simillar), A leaking valve or the Bead leaking (The seal between the tyre and the wheel).
Take it to a reputable tyre house to get it checked out first.

You can buy valves. Defalte the tyre, unscrew the valve from the barrel, take it out and screw the new on in. Takes a minute. Mine had this, they took the wheel off and said the sealant around the rim had leaked water into it and was creating a channel for air to escape. They ground the inside of the alloy, resealed it and put a new tyre on. Cost ten quid on top of new tyre price. Valve on other tyre cost 3 quid.

Agree with Scooby. CorsaJohn the 'black paste' is bead sealer and I personally try not to use this unless it is needed as it can make it hard to break the bead to remove the tyre.
It could also be the valve center is loose, theres a special tool used to tighten them that Halfords sell but I doubt its this.
Are the alloys old? If so they may have 'aged' around the bead making it not get a flush/tight fit.
Any garage that fits tyres can sort this and It will cost no more than £10 or £15 if at Kwikfit

If --the place I went to-- starts making things up to make me buy a new, overpriced tyre, TwatFit are going to have you walking out with four new tyres, a new clutch, new brakes and exhaust, and about 1,500 grand lighter!!!
When you go to these places, always phone up beforehand, so you both know what you want in the first place without being put on the spot.

Kwitfit only fit basics. Plus they can only 'insist' that you dont drive on a bad tyre etc. I agree Kwikfit may not be the best but they aint the worst and am sure the words 'NO I dont want to' are in your vocabulary
Stop being a willy and head down there and get it checked out. Am sure you'd sooner spend 30mins at kwikfit rather than 2hrs waiting for the AA van if you suffer a blow-out of the motorway at 70mph
