My GF's car is a tired 10 year old astra that has seen better days, but the past couple of days it has thrown up new problems.
It seems to lose all power quite randomly and i have to dip the clutch and rev put my foot down quite hard to get some decent revs to take of, as you can imagine in the middle of a busy junction this could be quite dangerous.
Personally, i think it could be a fueling problem, maybe all the pipes are clogged in gunk, i have just put some fuel injector treatment in it and will drive it to work to test it, anyone got any other ideas of what it might be?

Do the revs drop and kind of gurgle round by the bottom, even cutting out? Is there a difference in firing, like you get a little 'blarp' when accelarating?

Sounds a bit like the problem above, but all seems to be alot better now, looks like it was just a fuel blockage. We will see

Problem still exists, but only in the wet/cold.
But it wont go much about 60mph and it is alot slower acceleration than it used to be.

Sound, will try and take it the garage tomorrow, not sure of the service history on it, getting a bit tired and worn out me thinks.

well, maybe not half the engine, but big chunks of it.
it was one of the pulleys, a couple of cogs, a couple of belts and a few bolts.
Going to have a look at assess the damage tonight.

Sounds like the cambelt tensioner pulley has given up and thrown the cambelt. Probably causing internal engine damage as this engine is identified as an interfearance engine (Valves hit the pistons).

It is the crank shaft and it has killed the pulleys for the timing belt, probs be a whole new engine?
