This old chestnut, the CP26 and ol' can o' powerboost With my 1800 engine returning godawful MPG and crippling my wallet i need all the help i can get to lower it,i dont believe the ecotek stuff works but am wondering what EVERYONE thinks, and who has experience of it This forum, the ecotek forum has plenty of topics from all sorts of people, not just chavs,hu have used it and rate it well I have used powerboost in my 1.4 and a)no gunk came out of my echaust-meaning,it didnt do much cleaning,if any and b)the car stalls during application Economy and power felt the same afterwards The CP26 however is supposed to give good improvements and 1 guy with a scort GTI said he got 41MPG with it one time. Anyone got owt to say on these 2 products Think i may take the dive and get one

gurgling means it wasnt "tuned" mate, ive watched a vid from the site of how to set them up and apparently u shud tighten it 1/4 turn past the point where it is silent at idle, and it "rasps" on overrun and makes another noise when revving up. An old mate of mine had one on his BM 316 and the noise was pretty bad but also, that gets quiter after the first 300 miles or so of use.Ive lost touch with him so cant see what he thinks, anyone else?

I 'tuned' it several times mate to get rid of the noise and it never went, I could notice a different horrible noise when it wasnt 'tuned'
You got to ask yourself, if there sooo amazing why dont manufactor's use them at standard? They always want a car to have great MPG and performace and invest millions to do what they can - I doubt a £40 T-piece would do this

again...the site has the answer,
"On modern cars the CB-26P device works in at least two distinct ways to improve performance, it collapses the manifold vacuum allowing briefly for a richer mixture on the re-application of a trailing throttle - thus significantly improving throttle response - and it creates an element of off-throttle turbulence (increasingly being used by Ford and Mercedes Benz in their performance engines) making acceleration smoother and more urgent."
Ford and merc are obviously putting similar things on their engines as standard now,or its all bullplop

Maufactures make all cars as a balance between economy and performance etc.... They spend ££££ on development and testing so if one of these valves are so good, why are they not fitted as std ...just a thought.

Prodrive(the company behind subura tweekery) have tested the CB26P and have graphs and figures saying it deffo works

Don't bother with them mate, your problem lies in your sensors or whatever's wrong with your engine, the valve will make no difference.

ECOTEK VALVE
It promises gains in mpg, better performance and improved sex drive In practice it sounds like a fart, has a marginal effect on mpg (since it leans out the mixture) and cannot increase performance on a well-setup engine.
Theory sounds nice, but it's a waste of money
This 'valve' is a controlled airleak, leaning the mixture further, (hopefully) when it should be lean anyway. So yes, it would theoretically have a small effect in fuel consumption, especially if you don't drive the car hard. The downside is that the engine operates leaner than it was meant to - second guessing the designers. If they thought it should be (say) 17:1 on overrun, who are you to say that 20:1 is better? If you have a cat this would create higher average temps for one. Throttle repsonse would be worse too, because you'd be starting from a leaner point than the ECU expects.
But most of the benefits would be pure placebo - if it could increase mpg by 10%, hell...these people would be billionaires just by selling the rights to the big car companies. I bet they haven't even bothered to patent it ("patent pending" means just that!)

got one from stu bennet yesterday and results speak for themselves
Trip from dundee to birkenhead on friday WITHOUT ecotek, 260 miles from FULL to empty
Trip from birkenhead to dundee tonight WITH ecotek fitted and correctly set up. 291 miles from FULL and still fuel in the tank now!! i reckon ill get another 30 miles out of it
The driving styles on the above 2 journeys was identical(not pushed once) and this is the FIRST TIME ive seen more than 270 miles to a tank from my new engine

glad to be of assistance. i honestly didn't notice much of a difference myself but then again i didn't test it like you did! guess with all that money you'll be saving on petrol can be spent on your car.
