hi just puttin this up for a friend as he wants to know if anybody has a rough idea of below:
just wondering how much a new engine, say a 2.0L, labour and all the other bits and bobs that are needed for a full engine conversion on a Corsa B currently running a 1.0L 12v...
may look into it as a good reason to keep current corsa

its not a bad price cos you can do it in your garage over a weekend withthe right tools. the engine will cost about 400 and the kit about another 100. its only rough.

it will be more than that cause you`ll need a decent engine, say about £500 and then the conversion kit from one of the big companies which i think will cost about £600 and then if you cant do the engine conversion yourself then your lookig at aleast another £500 upwards for someone to drop the engine in. hope that helps

Say you're putting a 1.4 16v in. They have similar cam covers to the 2.0's, so if anything bad happens, at face value it'll still look like the noted engine.

Surely you would have to upgrade the brakes, suspension etc.
Would you not be better cutting your losses and buying an older, more powerful car?

the 1.0s are incredibly basic. I agree a better base car wud be needed. At least somethin with 2.0 matching brakes. However if the corsa is n e thin like the scort they all have the same brake and suspension set-up lol. Even the escort GTi had feeble brakes like shreks. Only the RS2000 had bigger units

Brakes on the escort 1.8 need upgrading even when running standard power if you want to drive it as hard as it can be driven.
I think you should buy a better base car. might even be cheaper in the long run.

1.8 had same brakes as the 1.6 except some 1.8GTI's had rear discs. RS2k had bigger/better brakes but that was cos its 150BHP plus 2/4wd

4wd drive is stupid for the RS2000 its not powerful enough and that just makes it slow when you get a 4x4.
Never knew the GTI was ever made with rear discs? Well never seen one anyway.
