Always wondered when you watch the old cowboy indian movies or old battle scenes and you see explosions and horses going over on their sides. I suspect that no matter how good a rider is that some horses get injured.

I also note that Jews and Muslims get special dispensation for slitting throats of animals for kosher halal purposes. If Farmer Giles did it he would be hauled over the hot coals

Westerns used to use trip wires on the horses which wasn't good, the most notable being Stagecoach (1939).

These days thy use trained horse and CGI, always look for the disclaimer at the end of the film, it either says "no animals were harmed" etc or "the animals welfare was looked after", the latter's style is obviously avoiding the former's outright statement.

Although its the photographing of them with their kill that irks me as if its some triumph to shoot an animal with high powered rifle and telescopic sight. Id have a bit more respect if they had hunted and killed it with a spear

The don't need to be smart and skilled. This is 'canned hunting', a virtual guarantee that you can shoot and kill in enclosures. Many of the animals such as the cats are hand reared so that they have no fear of humans .
