There’s a postcard for sale on eBay showing the First World War naval memorial in Birkenhead … http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/282025855660?_trksid=p2055119.m1438.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT … does anyone know where this memorial is?

That is the WW1 memorial in Prenton, the corner of Osmaston Road and Prenton Hall Road.

Thanks for that, DD. It's a part of Birkenhead I don't know very well. A very impressive memorial.

As soon as I saw "additional info" it reminded me, wasn't this bomb damaged in WW2? I'm sure there's an old thread on wikiwirral that mentions it.

Yes, seen it mentioned, can't say where.
It was probably damaged in the raid on the 9th August 1940, which claimed the life of Merseyside's first victim, Johanna Domenica Mandale, of 28 Woodyear Rd, Bromborough, who was working for Mr Bunney, 14 Prenton Lane.

It was the 2nd/3rd May 1941 raid that damaged it.
