Cracking pics. love the SD1. Dreamed of getting one for ages, imagine it would be a very expensive pastime.

Nice photos Violet. The SD1, the Sunbeam and the ?Zephyr are all beautifully kept.
But are chavved-up Novas, Festers, Sierras, R5s etc. really classic cars? Discuss...

It's the same thing that happens every generation. MGB's were considered classics even though they were 20 years old, the last one that was made was 1980. I notice you left out Anglias, Ford 130e's, Zephyrs, Escort mk1/2 out there, they're only 30+ years. Novas/Fiestas/Sierras are about to turn 30 - the SD1 is the same age. I didn't see any 'chavved' up ones though. You go to Tatton Park classic car show and I'm told it's the same MGB's etc every year - boring.

Good pics mate, thanks for sharing, loved seeing the fastback style Sunbeam Rapier, used to be my (realistic) dream car before the Opal Manta took over - in the end I never got round to having either.

In Cholmondley Castle (In the middle of Cheshire - about 20 miles from Chester). Only one at the show! There weren't many Japanese cars there, apart from the Toyotas.

I've been thinking of buying an SD1 for years, but they aren't that fast, reliable, cost effective or good at handling compared to many modern cars. I suppose it would only be for the classic car appeal, but who would really care anyway.
It's not as if you could enjoy cars like this for day-to-day use as you'd be heartbroken if some mother trucker in tesco scratched it with a trolley. Defo something for the weekend only.
Great to see them at shows, but It's a fair commitment to pay rent, insurance, MOT and repairs for something that you'd hardly use.
Ford Sieras, escorts and fiestas still have their place in British car history, but I'd hesitate to describe them as "classics".
